About

G'day, I'm Al!

Thanks for stopping by and browsing my work, here's where you'll find a little bit about how I work and SOMETHING.

I'm proudly based in the Inner West Suburbs of Melbourne - it's got an amazing sense of community spirit I've not encountered anywhere else and I love that I'm raising a family in such a diverse, creative urban hub.

I share my life with Lady Lightsoak and our tiny bald tyrant who is just shy of 2. I'm owned by a British Bulldog, Beatrice (try saying that three times quickly) and two feline overlords, Hugo and Nigel. I'm terrible at keeping plants alive.

When I'm not behind a camera, you'll find me rummaging through a vintage bazaar on the hunt for photo props or digging for obscure 90s vinyl in an op-shop. In quieter moments I can be found trying to beat my top score on SOME GAME on Super Nintendo and tinkering on whatever latest vehicle happens to be in my possession at the time.

So why "Lightsoak"?

With a background in multimedia and digital imaging, there was always a certain "something" missing - a human element.

I'm all about capturing moments that bring Joy. I love telling a story through imagery and have a particular fondness for the documentary style of photography but am always happy to oblige for the token "cheese" photo that Nanna loves so fondly.

While I love nothing more than capturing images in your home - I also love the challenge of working with light to get the best shot in a studio set-up. I love working with small business for this very reason to come together and achieve a creative vision that will hopefully exceed your expectations.

I'm guessing this is the part where I'm supposed to sell you on what sets me apart from the other photographers in the region, but truth be told I'm lucky to be a part of an amazing creative community and feel there's a lid for every pot.

Please feel free to get in touch - I look forward to working with you to tell your story.

I am always amazed by the experience of taking part and capturing special moments in people’s lives. I also understand that often the best natural and candid moments are captured when people are feeling joyous or at ease and I strive to create such an environment, with natural results. I work hard during and after each photo shoot to ensure that your final images are inspiring and beautiful.
